Annual Appeal

Since its founding in 1990, the Historical Society has benefited from the foresight of champions like you who care deeply about our town. Our successful role as stewards of our community’s history requires investment in the operational funds that sustain our programming. In fact, 51% of our contributions come from this annual appeal, which in 2023 helped us to:

•  Present 51 educational programs, including 24 of our popular history talks, school field trips, summer camp tours, Shay Days, and the current exhibit,
   “Restful Resorts: Cottages, Community and Change.”

•  Welcome thousands of visitors to tour our local history museum and Shay Park.

•  Process and properly care for hundreds of newly donated artifacts and archival records that form the three-dimensional legacy of the Harbor Springs area.

In addition, donations allowed us to perform basic preservation maintenance on the 1886 former city hall that houses the museum and cover increasing utility costs. We do not receive any city or tax funds in support of our operations or programming. This is where you can truly make a difference.
