Tea Party and History Talk

Feb 7, 2026
11:00 am
Location: Ephraim Shay Works Museum

Share a special morning with your Valentine at this fun event during the DDA's annual Ice Fest!

Curator Beth Wemigwase will give a History Talk exploring the history of the Shay Hexagon House as a longtime tearoom and a little about the history of Valentine's Day. Inside the historic Shay Hexagon House, the Cotton Bale Tea Room operated in the lower level for 27 years, beginning around 1932. In 1959, the space changed ownership and reopened with a new name, the Hexagon Tea Room. Now, for the first time in over 60 years, you can experience the Shay House's tea room for yourself! During the talk, you will enjoy a sampling of handmade teas from local company Jordan’s Teas, along with fresh scones and other baked treats. Don't miss your chance to re-live history inside the Shay Hexagon House.

Tickets are $30 per person and seating is limited! Advance registration is required. Register using the button below or by calling 231-526-9771. This experience is recommended for all ages but will be most enjoyable to those aged 10 and above.

An open house across the street at the History Museum will take place the same day as the ticketed tea (from 10 am until 3 pm) featuring vintage card making, snacks and games.
