Location: History Museum

For more than a century, the distinctive and unusual architecture of Legs Inn has made it one of northern Michigan’s most recognizable landmarks. Join George Smolak for a look at the history of this one-of-a-kind Cross Village institution and the family story behind it.

George will share the story of his uncle, Polish immigrant Stanley Smolak, who settled in Cross Village in 1921 and spent decades transforming local stone, timber, driftwood and other found materials into the remarkable building and furnishings visitors know today. Drawing on his own experiences as a member of the Smolak family and longtime operator of Legs Inn, George will offer a personal perspective on the history and continuing legacy of this beloved local landmark.

This talk will be held on the second floor of the Harbor Springs History Museum (349 E Main Street, Harbor Springs). Advanced registration is encouraged. To register, use the dropdown menu below or call 231-526-9771.
