Prohibition at the Grand Hotel

Mackinac Island’s Grand Hotel has a rich history related to Prohibition and gambling. Hotel Historian Bob Tagatz will delight guests with this presentation on the history of the hotel, it’s speakeasy and the less-than-legal activities that took place there in the 1920s and 30s.
Tagatz’s talk takes place at the Harbor Springs History Museum beginning at 5:30 pm on Thursday, August 18. Tickets are $10 per person and advanced registration is required. Cookies and coffee will be served.

Bob Tagatz is currently engaged as Resident Historian and Concierge at Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan. He has over 30 years of civic experience in historical preservation in Michigan, Florida and Georgia. His particular area of interest is the study of turn-of-the century wood frame hotels. He assembled the hotel’s first archives and published a book and DVD on the history of Grand Hotel. Bob also represents the hotel as a member of Historic Hotels of America.
