B-52 Bomber and the Kincheloe Base

Thursday, Oct 14, 2021

7:00pm – 8:00pm

This online lecture with historian Barry Levine will take place via Zoom on Thursday, October 14 beginning at 7:00 pm.

Levine’s presentation focuses on two aspects of Michigan Aviation history, the fatal crash of a B-52 bomber in Little Traverse Bay in 1971 and the history of the Kincheloe Strategic Air Command base. The crash, tragic as it was, could have been worse. An environmental catastrophe was avoided as the B-52 was about a minute away from the Big Rock Point Nuclear Power Plant. The role Kincheloe Strategic Air Command base played in the Cuban missile crisis, Vietnam, nuclear alert missions and more will also be covered.

Advanced registration is required for this online presentation. A zoom link will be emailed to all participants a day or so prior to the lecture. Use the button below to register.
