Historical Society Welcomes New Assistant Director

The Harbor Springs Area Historical Society is pleased to announce the addition of Teddy Tamm as its new Assistant Director. Tamm will serve the Historical Society in multiple capacities, with a primary focus on the development and operations of the Ephraim Shay Innovation Museum, set to open this summer. He will also support the organization’s educational programming, volunteer initiatives, and membership outreach, helping to expand the society’s engagement with the community.

“We are excited to have Teddy step into this leadership role at the Historical Society,” said Kristyn Balog, Executive Director. “Teddy’s academic background, experience in education, customer service, and entrepreneurial spirit bring a range of skills that will strengthen our work preserving and sharing the history of Harbor Springs.”

A Harbor Springs and Petoskey native, Tamm graduated with honors from Michigan State University’s James Madison College with a B.A. in Social Relations and Policy. He went on to pursue a Master’s degree in History at Central Michigan University, where he assisted in teaching undergraduate history courses. His academic and professional journey also led him to teach English at the University of Toulouse-Jean Jaurès in France.

In addition to his background in history and education, Tamm has deep roots in the local community. He spent 12 seasons working at Stafford’s Pier Restaurant, waiting tables each summer while attending school. His passion for food and local culture led him to start a small business selling tacos at the Harbor Springs Farmers Market, and more recently, he has begun selling pasties—a nod to a long-standing family tradition. Through this venture, he has found a way to tie together his love of food and history, celebrating the region’s culinary heritage.
